****WHAT WE ARE ABOUT TO SAY MIGHT SOUND SO CRAZY YOU MAY THINK WE ARE MAKING IT UP -- BUT THIS EVENT ACTUALLY HAPPENED****
Because we've been listening to our community, we feel it's necessary to share the story, about our neighbor incident last year. Our move does not have to do with this friendly neighbor, who if you were with us last year, spent a good portion of his Friday and Saturday with a steam engine train horn trying to wreck our vibe. The event actually brought us closer together, in smiles and appreciation for our community and we met so many new neighbors who came out to show their support, some even thanked us for the festival with fireworks on Sunday! We feel this story is important to mention because we do not accept Martin Grave's bullying behavior, it was truly absurd and he definitely made a name for himself in Loudoun County.
He got his horn confiscated by the police after he was caught red handed while shooting a gun into the ground and blaring the horn. He was cited for disturbing the peace and for calling the police too many times, for invalid reasons. He plead guilty in court, was fined and received two years of probation.
We wish the Graves family well in their healing journey, and we thank them for bringing FlowJam to the attention of Loudoun County officials and the state of Virginia, who are now our supporters we call on often. We are especially grateful for our new friend, the Deputy Sheriff of Loudoun County. Seriously, he's cool. We're moving to try something new this year, that's all.
****REMEMBER, GOOD VIBES ALWAYS WIN****
We're excited & hope you'll join us for our biggest event yet in a BRAND NEW SPACE on the Blue Ridge Mountains!
ADDRESS: 40371 Quarter Branch Rd, Lovettsville VA
Once you've purchased your tickets, here is a must watch:
This is EVERYHING you’ll need to know before entering FlowJam 5.
Please watch all 11 minutes of it carefully. You will not be permitted entry until you do.
The music of Mateo Monk is beyond classification. It is a synthesis of multiple genres of world roots music, heavily informed by the spontaneous freedom of psychedelic jam culture. Mateo performs solo on the guitar, flute, synthesizer, and melodica, utilizing a looper pedal to create fully-textured rhythms, adorned with virtuosic melodic musings, all seamlessly woven into the song form in real time. It’s a modern spin on the iconic idea of the “one man band”, executed by a one-of-a-kind artist with deep emotional sensibility and dazzling instrumental finesse. Mateo has been performing for 23 years and has worked with many influential artists, including Thievery Corporation, Junior Marvin of Bob Marley and The Wailers, and members of the legendary reggae group Culture.
Mateo has been practicing meditation since 1992 and has been a devotee of Divine Mother Amma Sri Karunamayi since 1999. He recently visited her ashram in Andhra Pradesh, India, attending a three week meditation retreat in her presence, and just returned from a 10 day Maha Shivashakti Yagnam (fire ceremony) with her as well in Atlanta.

A country girl with an urban edge, Edy Blu’s highly emotive and soothing vocal tone will haunt you long after you leave her presence. Her beauty will capture you as soon as she steps on the stage. She has a knack for writing and composing catchy, melody-driven songs that you will easily find yourself grooving to. Edy was born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, Virginia. Growing up on a farm, the world was her playground. Born a natural dreamer, the back-drop of mountains and woods only fueled Edy’s free-spirited tendencies. She was also given the opportunity to sit in with different area bands, including reggae powerhouse, See-I at Eighteenth Street Lounge on Wednesday nights. These experiences gave her the confidence to start a band around her original compositions in late 2012. Her soulful, rootsy vibe and energizing live performances have been garnering her fans around the DMV.

"When I was going through my medical scare, I thought how we share so much nice things about each other at wakes/shiva/Facebook walls about the deceased, that they will never hear.I wanted to create a safe space where people can share those thoughts to create positivity, love, and joy before we die.
Please come with your friends to our wake. Enjoy some wine and tell your friends all the beautiful things about them that they usually don't hear about until they are no longer able to listen. You can also come and talk about how you would like to be remembered and what you can do to accomplish that goal. Life is short, and we all need to tell our friends how much we care before it is too late."

Owner, WineDown Yoga; Creator & host for FlowJam
I created FlowJam festival, in collaboration, to share the farm I grew up on with the healers of the world, and all those who want to learn from nature. It's grown into this magical experience with THE BEST local musicians, healers and co-creators and leaves people floating on clouds for weeks. I share yoga to ignite the spark in everyone I meet and to build awareness of our connection to the environment. Sharing this practice allows me to fulfill my innermost desire to offer healing to the world and allows me to supply people with the tools and wisdom to create sustainable behavior change in their life. I believe yoga is the system ordinary individuals can use to do extraordinary things to positively impact the world. Every individual has the power, but it takes awakening the spark within and letting go of the ego to become aware. Yoga reignites my desires everyday, and everyday I strive to be a better version of myself.

Dante Baker has been a native to the Washington DC area his entire life, growing up in Reston, VA. Since his childhood years, Dante has always had a fascination with the human anatomy and all of its abilities to heal, move, and process. This interest led Dante to studying and receiving certifications through AFAA and NASM in 2007. As he pursued personal training he worked with wide a range of clients such as over-weight clients, young athletes and elderly adults. As he gained more experience and confidence in his teaching he extended his expertise to larger classes such as boot camp, athletic conditioning, kids physical education, kickboxing and body pump.
In 2009 he enrolled in the National Massage Therapy School and completed his 600- hour massage certification in 2010, all while learning transcendental meditation from Dr. Mahapatra Gyanendra -- one of the personal physicians of the Mararishi editation course. After receiving his certification, he studied under Dr. Akmal Muwwakkil where Dante started to explore Eastern practices and philosophies. In the same year of completing his massage certification, he took a course in Tui Na—an ancient form of Chinese bodywork.
Dante was fascinated by the Eastern philosophies such as Chinese medicine and enrolled in a nine month Qi Gong and Tai Chi Ball certification with Master Nianzu Li (L.Ac) in 2013. The more he explored the holistic side of health, he started to incorporate sound healing with singing bowls as a way to heal the body, he received his Reiki Master certification in 2015, researched more deeply the symbolism of tarot, and most recently received his Yoga certification -200 hour from SOYA in January of 2016.
Adrianne is a social change agent focusing on using yoga and conscious movement as a means to promote peace and overall well being. She sees self-care as an integral method to help people truly re-imagine, and re-create the type of world we want to live in. After spending more than 7 years as a communication strategist for progressive nonprofits, and running her own consulting firm for three years, Adrianne shifted her focus to life coaching and full time healing advocacy as a means to be of better service to her colleagues--especially in our changing political climate. She wanted to find a way to link social justice work and healing work together, as her self-care practice contained tools that had helped her find peace in her own life, while also embracing the fire so true to her being. A life filled with constant resistance was making her feel helpless as she was watching her colleagues get more and more burnt out. At the same time, her connection to all things spiritual was becoming greater. Social justice is spiritual work, and so she started Yoga for Justice in 2016 as a response to the media's coverage of police brutality and race relations currently dividing the country. The more we can focus on balancing our perspective, the better advocates we can be for creating the life we truly want to live. This means getting comfortable with who we are, and releasing the historical trauma that keeps us bound to systematic oppression. Embracing the nickname Namaslay, Adrianne uses reiki, creative movement, music, yoga philosophy and continues to “teach kickboxing like a yoga teacher,” all while encouraging others to slay stereotypes on and off the mat daily.

Joey and the Waitress Band
Our goal is to create timeless music. Our first recording is just a small sampling of what is to come. More than a group of musicians, we are friends. Each performance is a celebration. It is not enough to say that we enjoy what we do; it is an honor and a privilege to perform together.
Since forming the band, we have been driven by a sense of destiny and a kind of calm inspired by the knowledge that what we are doing matters. This group of special individuals has evolved from a simple prayer asking for guidance - one prayed on many occasions - now fully answered.
We feel blessed for the life changing experiences we have had. Our hope is that you continue to follow us on our special journey. We look forward to sharing many more songs with you. Connect with us here: https://www.facebook.com/Joeyandthewaitressband/

“For me, Contact Improvisation represents the more basic, more primal side of what dance is. It is postmodern, it is a deconstruction of dance which lays bare the underpinnings of dance that many other dance forms hide. It also serves as a tool to explore the murky depths of our humanity: few forms are so deep, rich, and potent that after a dance you have to journal for half an hour because of what was discovered or got stirred up,” says Duane. Duane is one of the many dancers who first discovered Contact Improvisation at the Center Camp Jam at Burning Man. The year was 2004. “I was excited and mesmerized by what I saw. It took me half an hour to get the guts to go in and try it. I remember this woman giving me a kind of a piggyback ride. I had no idea what it was; I was just figuring it out as it was happening.” Later someone came up to him and asked how long he had been doing Contact Improvisation. That is how he discovered the form had a name, and he was delighted to hear that it is indeed practiced outside of Burning Man, and that he could probably find a jam in his hometown in the “default world.”

Sunshine Deva is the worlds first Grateful Kirtan band. Created by Ratdog/Grateful Dead family guitarist Mark Karan and Kirtan pioneer Wynne Paris, they meet at the crossroads of time and space, creating a sound that is drawn from each of their family trees.
In the late 60's, yoga was ushered into the American consciousness at events like Woodstock or the Human Be Ins at Golden Gate Park. One of the Grateful Deads first gigs was playing was the Mantra-Rock Dance—a musical event held on January 29, 1967, at the Avalon Ballroom by the San Francisco Hare Krishna temple. The Grateful Dead performed at the event along with the Hare Krishna founder Bhaktivedanta Swami. Sunshine Deva continues that tradtion with a nod to the ancient and a step towards the future.
about the musicians:
Wynne Paris has played over 2,000 kirtans and was introduced to the practice by playing with Amma, the hugging saint, in 1995. In 1997 he supported Krishna Das, recording and performing with the release of KD's groundbreaking recording Pilgrim Heart. Since then he's happily played with hundreds of kirtan musicians on stages ranging from Omega Institute and Bhakti Fest to small yoga studios and house concerts. He has recorded 4 cd's and has appeared on countless others.
Mark Karan, a native of Marin county, is best known for his long term work with Bob Weir and Ratdog. He has recorded and performed with many great artists like Huey Lewis, Sophie B Hawkins and Mickey Hart, just to name a few. He has appeared on major stages, soundtracks and recordings around the world and is known as one of the tastiest guitarists in the Grateful Dead pantheon.
At Flowjam, Wynne and Mark will be joined by On the Bus keyboardist Martin Pell, percussionist Greg Mallick, bassist David Bernhardt and vocalists Sunny Tripel and Melissa Christopher Green

Everyone shares pain but there is beauty and growth possible out of this pain. Life is beautifully painful. I think everyone at flowjam will be able to relate to this and I want to inspire people to realize that the good times are coming."
I want to share the spirit of free, creative expression blended with the focus of developing fine art. My work strives to demonstrate how art is another form of meditation and practice. The particular piece I want to rejuvenate and complete at the event was birthed from the moon gatherings I had always attended with the Matrika Collective every full and new moon with dear friends of mine. The painting is named 'Matrika', derived from 'matra' meaning mother in Sanskrit. FlowJam would be the perfect environment for the piece to be created and displayed.
Originally a local artist from Northern Virginia, VOYAGER left Earth to travel the galaxy in search of psychedelic visions and has spent the past decade exploring nothing but Art itself.
“Art is one of the last frontiers of novelty; the few remaining realms you can go to discover something new. Art can be a portal to a places you wouldn't normally find in your own world. I create art to transform an environment and offer viewers a playground for the senses; possibly even an opportunity to glimpse something they've never seen before. My art holds a space for your mind to interpret abstract shapes and geometric patterns meant to change right before your eyes!”
VOYAGER last appeared in the Washington Capital Area for Catharsis on The Mall 2017. As an event volunteer and member of the Art Team, he helped create the live-stage and offered a fluorescent mural painting performance as everyone danced through the night. This year at FlowJam, VOYAGER will resume work on the “Manifest FlowJam Farm” Mural and unveil at least one new fluorescent mural to be displayed with a color-changing lightshow!
